Working at the UEC
As you may know, the UEC has an ever-growing library. While the desk worker does a lot of the library work (checking items in and out, answering the telephone, opening the door for patrons, etc…), Joshua and I have been able to provide a little help by learning the new LAMP system, which organizes all library materials. Also, I have learned to answer the phone with the only Ukrainian I know: “Óêðà¿íñüêèé Îñâ³òí³é Öåíòð! Äîáðûé äåíü.”
Another way we “work” at the UEC is by keeping it up. With about 200 patrons a day, it takes hard work to keep it nice. While the workers have some cleaning responsibilities, groups that use the UEC are in charge of leaving it in better condition than it was before. I take pride in taking care of the UEC and keeping it clean, so that it can continue to be a comfortable place for students and groups to use.
